Frequently asked questions

Commission FAQ's
What materials do you use?
I use only the highest quality materials. Take a look at the 'About my Art' section for further information.
How do I order a portrait?
Ordering a private commission is easy. Have a look at the 'Commissions' section of the website for further information.
How long will the portrait take?
When booking in the portrait, I will give you a rough idea as to when the Portrait will be created and an estimated completion time. I will then contact you when I start the drawing and send you regular updates throughout. The time it takes to complete, depends on the size and subject of the artwork. If you hope to have a drawing completed in time for a specific occasion or date, let me know at the time of booking and I will see if I can accommodate your request.
How do I choose the best reference photo?
If you plan on taking a photo. have a look at my photo guide on the 'Commissions' section of the website. It's best to get down at eye level with your pet and take a photo in natural daylight. When choosing an existing photo, look for a high quality photo where all main features are in focus. There are some examples in the photo guide.
What if I only have an old/ bad reference photo?
I understand that sometimes photos may be limited, especially if your pet has sadly passed on. Send me the photos you have and I will let you know if I am able to work from them. I will always do my best! However this will always be at my discretion.
How many photos do I need to provide?
I will primarily work from one photo. However, I encourage clients to provide as many as they can, so i can get to know the dog a little before starting the drawing. Send over your favorites, and we can discuss which will translate the best into a portrait.
When and how do I need to pay?
To secure your booking, I request a non-refundable 25% deposit. The remainder of the balance is payable once the portrait is completed and only when you are 100% happy. Payments can be made either through PayPal or Bank Transfer.
Can I see progress of my portrait?
Yes, I will always offer progress updates at regular intervals, unless of course you would like a complete surprise! I often share progress on my social media platforms, so keep an eye out for your pet portrait coming to life!
Can you draw a double portrait from different photos?
Yes I can, I can use two separate photos to create a double portrait. I just ask that they are high resolution so I can capture the likeness of your beloved pets.
I need a portrait as a last minute gift, can you do it in time?
I am often booked up in advance, but if you have a specific date in mind, for example a birthday, let me know and I will try my best to accommodate your request.
I want to change something in the photo, can this be done?
Yes, I can often make changes, just let me know at the time of booking and I will see what I can do!
How will the portrait be packaged?
Your portrait will be lovingly and securely packaged for shipping. Your finished artwork will be mounted on high quality mount with a cellophane sleeve to protect for dust / marks. The portrait will then be wrapped up in bubble wrap and cardboard surrounds to ensure it is packaged safely!
How will the portrait be shipped?
If within the UK, your portrait will be posted 'Special Delivery' via Royal Mail which is fully tracked and insured.
Is the 25% deposit refundable?
If I have not started your commission or purchased materials, I will refund your deposit. However this is at my discretion.
Do you offer refunds?
Due to the nature of custom commissions, I do not accept refunds. However, the portrait will not be shipped until you are 100% happy. I will consult with you throughout the booking process and once finished, I will send you a high quality proofing photo for your approval before sending. If you do not approve the finished portrait, no further will be made and the portrait will remain the property of Emily Morgan Fine Art.
